George Harvey is Managing Director of Upstream Financial Associates, LLC. a consulting firm dedicated to providing quality treasury and financial services to small and mid-market oil and gas companies. Prior to founding UFA, Mr. Harvey spent over 30 years in financial capacities in the oil and gas industry, including 6 years as Divisional Controller and 19 years as Treasurer for Nexen Petroleum U.S.A. Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting from Southern Methodist University is a Certified Treasury Professional and holds certificates of completion from the Graduate Finance Certificate Program at SMU and the Corporate Finance Program at the University of Michigan. Mr. Harvey has held or holds memberships in the Petroleum Accounting Society of Dallas, where he served from time to time on the Audit and Joint Venture committees, the Association for Financial Professionals where he was selected for recognition in AFP Honors 2005, 2007 and 2008 and in the Financial Executives International (FEI).
Jim Hoffman is the National Sales Director for PDI, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit for the benefit of the University of North Texas, co-host of NAPAC, that has been providing CPE to the Oil & Gas Industry for nearly 40 years. Jim is author of four programs that he teaches regularly for PDI around the US, “Intro to Upstream”,” Land for Non-Landmen”, “Production Operations” and “Oil & Gas Finance – Getting the non-Financial to the Bottom Line”. In addition, his articles have appeared in various industry publications including The Oil & Gas Investor and The Petroleum Accounting and Financial Management Journal. He previously has been Regional Manager, Director and VP of Sales for several oil and gas software and consulting organizations, including Oracle Energy, PwC and Artesia Data Systems, all of whom were recognized as leaders in energy business software.
Don Looney brings over 30 years Supervisory experience in all phases of Finance and Accounting for the Oil and Gas Industry. He is a CPA registered in both Oklahoma and Texas and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Don teaches Petroleum Revenue/Royalty Accounting, Producer Balancing , Gas Plant Accounting and SMOG Analysis and Calculation Workshop PDI’s public National Oil and Gas Revenue Accounting School. He has taught Petroleum Accounting in different countries around the world, including Ecuador, Trinidad, Angola and South Africa. Prior to retirement, Don spent 25 years with Amerada Hess Corporation in several capacities. While managing the Revenue Accounting Department he was responsible for recording all gas, gas plant and oil revenue as well as for the reconciliation and payment of all royalties and the calculation and reporting of lease and well level oil and gas production. Before joining Amerada Hess, Don was an auditor for Cities Service Corporation. He has been teaching for PDI for over 15 years.
Dick Moore has more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry including jobs in both regulated and unregulated segments of this industry. He has held senior management positions in oil and gas production companies, interstate and intrastate natural gas pipelines, gas and electric utilities as well as natural gas gathering, processing and marketing companies. He serves as faculty for the Utility Executive Course at the University of Idaho as well as the Professional Development Institute at the University of North Texas and has been a speaker on energy topics for the Maguire Energy Institute at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
Jeff Alcott has more than 30 years of experience in oil and gas accounting. The James Madison University graduate began his career with Texaco. He has a background in both upstream and downstream accounting and his areas of responsibility have included financial reporting, supervision of joint venture and gas pipeline accounting groups, special projects, Joint Operating Agreement review and negotiation and joint venture audit resolution. Following his retirement from ChevronTexaco Jeff became a consultant, specializing in joint venture audits, vendor audits, internal reviews and litigation support. Jeff served as COPAS President in 2006. He served as COPAS Joint Interest Chair and was a member of the drafting teams of various COPAS documents. Jeff is a past president of COPAS of New Orleans and is an Accredited Petroleum Accountant.®
W. Buckner Ogilvie, Jr. has served as Vice President of Administration for Tomlinson Interests, Houston. Part of his duties included selecting and implementing a new E&P system. He has also worked for Excaliber Computer Systems in Houston. He founded the Houston office and eventually became President. He served as a director in consulting for Deloitte & Touche, Houston, for more than 20 years. His focus was on design, implementation, controls and process improvements for new and existing clients. Key functionality included Land and Lease Records, Joint Interest Billing, Production Accounting and Revenue Accounting.
